Speaking your intrusive thoughts out loud
Some examples of intrusive thoughts:
What if I harm someone I love?
What if I lose my mind?
I am bad and no one likes me.
I am going to shout or scream.
Intrusive thoughts can make you feel lonely, confused and overwhelmed. First and fore most, you are not alone. These thoughts happen for many, many people. It is important to recognize that these thoughts are not you, they happen due to stress triggers, anxiety, depression and other events happening in life. Often times when these thoughts come up people do not want to tell people so they are stuck, alone in their head with these repeating thoughts.
It is important that when these thoughts arise you speak them aloud. I know that sounds crazy and vulnerable. If you have someone safe to talk to speak out loud the thoughts to them. If you do not have anyone safe to talk to about these thoughts try saying them out loud to your voice memos.
Keeping your thoughts in your head is only going to increase the frequency of them and lead to fearful responses. There is no shame in these thoughts. They are normal. You may be surprised by how many people have these thoughts. Speak them aloud so that you have power over them. They do not have power over you.
If you need more help it could be beneficial to seek out therapy and talk through the root of these thoughts. Again, you are not alone and you are worthy of expressing any and all thoughts that come to you head in a safe setting.
